Tips For New and Expecting Parents

Tips For New and Expecting Parents

While pregnancy and the first few months as a new parent can be the most wonderful time for a family, it can also be difficult. Besides the obvious changes a new family member brings, the day-to- day experience of taking care of a newborn can be a bit overwhelming for some, especially if it’s your first time! For this blog post we have partnered with Jen’s Review’s.

A Guide to Teething for New Parents

While we are all parents here at MITTEEZ™, we do like to stick to what we know best and that is teething babies. This is one of those things that can throw parents for a loop! That’s why we offer tips that help parents and their wee ones manage the sometimes-disruptive event of teething. We like to offer clear methods for providing teething pain relief and share which ones are a bit ‘old-school’ and are no longer in use! You can read more about that here.

Whether a baby is teething or not, it’s important to know that it is instinctive for babies to place their fingers, hands and other objects into their mouth. If you’re a new parent, don’t worry, this is a perfect natural thing for a baby to do. In fact, there are a few reasons why they do it! For one, it is thought that a baby’s mouth has so many sensor’s in it, they are using their mouth it to learn about the world around them. It provides them with information. Of course, it could also be that a new tooth is coming in. This typically happens the first time between 3 and 6 months although it’s uncommon for there to be some variation.

Simple Solutions from Jen’s Reviews

Jen’s Reviews guide, says that when “a child is teething they may find it comforting to bite and chew on teethers. Some teethers can be chilled in the fridge, providing cool relief when your child chews on it“. The guide also talks about how “rattles help babies develop many skills… [they] excite your baby visually and also provide audio stimulation“. That’s why MITTEEZ™ was created with the Pea Bear™ and friends keepsake toy which is attached at the closure of all MITTEEZ™ Teething Mittens. The crinkly rattle sounds help stimulate baby’s development while they safely chew the soft, food-grade silicone teether. Besides which we find many MITTEEZ™ babies are fond of the soft, adorable faces of Pea Bear and friends.

Under the “15 Essential Baby Care Tips” Jen’s Reviews also recommends soaking a new washcloth in cold water then allowing baby to chew it for some relief. The mitten part of MITTEEZ™ Teething Mitten is made from bamboo and organic cotton which can be placed in the fridge or freezer prior to giving it to your baby. The coolness can feel good on sore and inflamed gums. It’s best to avoid freezing anything you give to baby though as the hardness could be more damaging than helpful.

Teething Relief Changes

One of the problems with providing objects for a baby to suck or bite on is that young babies are generally unable to hold and grip objects very well. That means an adult will have to retrieve and possibly clean a toy every time it’s dropped and before returning the toy to the baby. This is not just inconvenient, it’s also unsanitary. In fact, in the case of teethers, a baby’s ability to grip the teether may be so limited that it is necessary for an adult to hold the teether while the baby bites on it.

That’s why MITTEEZ™, Teething Mitten made so much sense to us. Because the mitten is attached with Velcro at the wrist like a winter mitten. Babies can’t drop it, and it is always available to them. And because MITTEEZ™ is fully washable and comes with its’ own laundry bag, it can be sanitized whenever necessary. MITTEEZ™ solves many of the usual challenges parents face when helping find relief for their baby.

MITTEEZ™ Stage 1, organic, protective and; preventative developmental two-stage teething mitten and keepsake toy is available in our online store and currently ships within Canada.

Shipping to the United States and Mexico are slated to begin in 2018.

MITTEEZ™ Stage 2 Ultimate Teething Mitten will be available later in 2018.
